My 8 year old really wanted a nice cover for his toy cellphone.
His idea was to do the skull cover he already has in a updated version with a smiley face and in blue.
I have no clue where these ideas come from ,but he was very enthusiastic and i had a 5m sample of very very nice faberdashery lapis blue PLA lying around. So the young man got to stand on a chair and feed it into the bot. The smiley came from thingiverse and was crudely fused to the cover in makerware. It printed nicely and at 92 percent the print looked good and a very nice color. But 5 meters was not enough ! I got the dreaded out of filament error at 93%. I had maybe 75cm of blue filament in the house. But it was ABS.
Since i was running the out of warranty extruder anyway i thought "damn the torpedoes" and fed it in.
Amazingly the ABS mixed nicely and the print completed. i got a bit of delamination a few layers after the transition but i think it went well considering i was running wrong temp, speed and feed multiplier. And i have neither heated bed nor chamber. The mixed layer is quite nice and strong. Sometimes a fathers desperation to not disappoint his son gives nice new workarounds. Actually the result is not bad looking:
I just love all the stuff you can print with !
